Andrea Borghi (b.1974) is an art teacher and sound artist based in Pietrasanta, Lucca. Andrea graduated from the National Academy of Fine Arts in Carrara. Starting as bass player and attended courses in piano, composition and electronic music at the Giacomo Puccini Conservatory Of Music in La Spezia. His activities in the field of sound art and installations include being a founding member of the electronic improvisation quartet VipCancro and running the label Lisca Records. In recent years his primary artistic focus has been on the study of "substitutability" of materials and producing sound directly from concrete discs - an approach he refers to as "Discomateria". He is also experimenting with other materials such as glass, plastic, metal, and more recently, marble. With Discomateria, sound is generated in real time playing the discs on a prepared turntable. Discomateria objects are also visual works of art in their own right.

In 2016, Andrea won first prize in the multimedia artist category at the "Radical dB" festival, and recently held a personal exhibition of Discomateria at the Kesselhaus Museum in Berlin, presented by Hyperlinear and N.K.

Apart from and/OAR (USA), Andrea's works have also been published by other labels around the world such as Reductive (Spain), Observatoire (Russia), Cipher Productions (Australia), SQRT (Poland) and Contour Editions (USA). More recently, the CD "Fuochi Rituali di San Giuseppe" was released by Unfathomless (Belgium) and a 3" disc titled "Sostrato" was released by Marginal Frequency (USA).
